Detachment of the Body, Reality & the Mind

Ever hear the term detachment?

Most likely you have, if not here is one of the few handy definitions for you.

Detachment: a condition in which something has become separated from something else

Go here for more definitions on the word.

detachment-2

So lately I have been feeling a sense of detachment. I suppose it would be fitting to say that this all started last week. First we had an emergency with our pet dog who turns out to be having some health issues, that I’m sure plays a part in this. Then I have also been faced with some other decisions in life which no doubt help play a role in this as well. On top of that my body fell a little ill due to the quickly changing weather from warm sunny days to very cold rainy days.

What I find most interesting in all this however is the feeling, or lack of them that one may experience during these detached experiences. We all live by our own reality, it is just on a majority of things we all tend to agree on because they can either be explained logically or scientifically and be proven through demonstrations. But there are things in life we perceive uniquely and that helps shape our reality. Now imagine where you just feel that you are drifting further away from your reality.

What do you think that feels like?

I will preface this by saying that these are momentary, very short in their time frame. So what I experience is lightheaded, dizziness and a near total numbness of my body. That numbing causes me to loose feeling in my whole body giving a sort of a light feeling. Generally when you are lightheaded, your mind will tend to go blank, or just drift away into the deeper cracks of your mind. I suppose that is what has happened with me as well as every time I come back, I feel as if I had left my reality for a moment in favor of whatever lies within my imagination, or in favor of simply drifting in a void.

It may sound sad to some, while to others it may sound like a nice momentary escape. To me, I think it happens for a reason. It happens to help the mind cope with the stress, negativity and the burdens we all experience as adults due to the trivialities we must deal with of living in human society. This is further enhanced by the fact that if you are a young adult struggling to get off the ground, that imagined land, or the void may seem more favorable in place of the reality you perceive daily.

Is this healthy?

In short doses, maybe. I mean we all need to get away from just about everything in our life sometimes. But if you do this all the time, or most of the time then I would say you are compromising your survival in human society. Sadly we all can’t just sleep forever living in our perfect world, we are not the center of the universe for the rest of the human population.

But that feeling of drifting away to a better place will no doubt be now deeply ingrained in my mind.

Personality Type & Discrimination

rodin-thinker-silhouette-1237828In all the time I have spent studying the Myers-Briggs personality types, and believe me it is a long time, I came across a particular trend.

Humans by nature like to organize things categorically. People are no exception to this “hobby”. Don’t believe me? Look at the current world structure. The world is divided by borders of different countries. In those countries, there are citizens who are in the government database neatly stored and organized. On your passport it says which country you are from. Further organizing and labeling you into a group than from the country someone else would be from.

So what is this trend I mentioned before? It is simply the trend of organizing other people into different personality types.

But you may ask, what does organizing people have to do with personality type discrimination? When you as the observer LABEL someone a personality type, what are you doing? You’re organizing them into a particular group. But that is not where the discrimination stems from necessarily. It is based on the individual’s biases.

I’ve come across insulting statements against other personality types, basically saying that the world may be better off without them. Those that do discriminate, learn to accept the world as it is because personality types at best are nothing more than a label at the end of the day.

No one with say ENFP traits would be completely same as another person with ENFP personality type at the end of the day. People differ, personality types don’t matter as much as some think they do. What matters is that you are able to look past the imperfections of other individuals to accept them as they are.

Complaining for someone to change won’t make them change. They have no obligation to change just because you say they need to. If they are happy as they are and not hurting anyone in the process, good on them, more power to them!

question-mark-1236555But if you try to discriminate against other personality types, what do you get out of it?

Is it a sense of personal satisfaction?

Is it a sense of deluded superiority?

Does discriminating help you prove something to yourself or others?

Discrimination is based off of fearing or rejecting what we don’t understand. A more mainstream example would be the time where American-Blacks were discriminated against widely in America in the past. They still are to a certain extent, heck everyone in the world is. But the truth of the matter is, those people are humans just like us. They need to eat, breath, drink water and sleep to survive. Same is true for any human on this planet.

So why the discrimination? When looking past all the personality types, religions, politics and any trivial feelings, we are all of the same kind. We are all humans.

LightExistence App Blog

Hey everyone,

After finally finishing the free motivational LightExistence Android app, I prepared a new blog to help promote it as well as discuss some topics on there that I won’t on here.

The topics I’ll talk about on there will relate to mental health and motivation primarily as the goal is to help those who are in need of motivation. To help those who feel empty inside, find that they have difficulty again finding the passion they once had.

It would be fantastic if you would take a minute or two to pop on over there real quick and perhaps drop a follow. Not only will that help the blog grow but also help grow the awareness for my free app, and potentially help more people that way.
